Is plant-based omega-3 or animal sources of omega-3 more effective?
In order for ALA (alpha-linolenic acid) to show beneficial effects in our body they must first be processed by the body into EPA and DHA. However since body can only process so much ALA effectively, supplementing your diet with only ALA could prove ineffective. Moreover, you would need to consume 4 to 5 times more ALA than EPA and DHA. Omega-3 from fish oil gives the body all the EPA and DHA it needs for optimal health without the need to first process it.
