Norwegian Seafood Council

The Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC) aims to increase the value of Norwegian seafood resources. We do this through market insights, market development, market risk management and reputational risk management in select markets around the world.

Our head office is located in Tromsø, Norway, and we have representatives in Sweden (Stockholm), UK (London), Germany (Hamburg), France (Paris), Spain (Madrid), Portugal (Lisbon), Italy (Milan), Brazil (Rio de Janeiro), Japan (Tokyo), Singapore (Singapore), China (Shanghai) and USA (Boston). In addition, we work to identify opportunities for Norwegian seafood products in both new and established markets.

The Norwegian seafood industry finances the activities of the Council through fees levied on all exports of Norwegian seafood.

We have five advisory groups, one for each of the most important seafood species or industries; salmon and trout, ground fish (cod, saithe, haddock etc.), prawn and shellfish, conventional products (salt fish, clipfish, stockfish) and pelagic products (herring, mackerel, capelin). In addition, three advisory groups have been established; one for the Norwegian domestic market, one for environmental documentation and one for new markets.

The advisory groups comprise in total over 70 representatives from the Norwegian seafood industry.
